Habishyali fractures leg in Srimandir jostle

Puri: A 78-year-old Habishyali had one of her legs fractured after she fell down amid the jostle of devotees during the Mangal Arati of the Trinity at Srimandir early Wednesday.

Sources said the mishap happened early in the morning when the septuagenarian devotee, Bilashini Behera of Baliputa village here, was witnessing the Mangal Arati of the Srimandir deities near the outer barricade of the 12th century shrine.

Behera lost control amid the jostle of devotees and slipped. She suffered severe injuries on her right leg, family sources said, adding that in no time the police personnel rescued her from the rush and brought her out of the temple premises.

She was rushed to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) where the doctors confirmed the deep fracture on her right leg after an X-Ray.

Sources said sub-Collector Bhabataran Sahoo enquired about her health at the DHH. “Behera was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced care. An assistance of Rs 10,000 has been given to her from the Red Cross fund,” Sahoo told the media.
