Haldiapadar overbridge turns into death zone due to lack of lighting

Kanishi: Road mishaps have become frequent on the stretch of road from Haldiapadar to overbridge under Rangeilunda block in Ganjam district due to lack of lighting on the route, a report said.

The stretch of road which is daily taken by hundreds of heavy vehicles, passenger cars and two-wheelers, turned into a death zone for commuters due to lack of visibility on the route. The mishaps often result in deaths or serious injuries to commuters.

Moreover, the road expansion work has added to the woes of commuters. This is because the road work has resulted in formation of more potholes and craters on roads. Bikers and passenger vehicles often meet with accidents after falling into potholes and craters

There have been instances when bikers often strike with others’ vehicles as they failed to see the approaching or parked vehicles on the route due to poor visibility.  As a result, accidents have become frequent on this patch.

This has happened as the district administration or the power department has never spared a thought to alleviate the sufferings of commuters. The residents of Haldiapadar have lodged several complaints with the authorities but their pleas are yet to be addressed.

The residents have demanded that the district administration and power department take immediate steps to light the stretch failing which there might be more accidents in future.
