Half-burnt bodies become meals for dogs in Bolangir district

Bolangir: Stray dogs have been feeding on the half-burnt bodies of COVID-19 deceased at the Bijakhaman cremation ground in Bolangir district. This development has come as a huge shock to local residents.

A source said mortal remains of the Covid-19 infected persons are not being burnt properly and completely. Hence the half-burnt bodies have become easy food for the stray dogs.

Sources pointed out that there is utter mismanagement at the cremation ground. They said those in charge of the crematorium are not doing their jobs in a proper manner leading to half-burnt bodies.

“The bodies should be burnt completely with enough firewood. The apathy of the administration has compounded the ongoing health crisis and we all are disturbed,” the family of a deceased stated.

Notably, the Bolangir district administration had appointed Harekrushna Rout as an additional tehsildar May 14. He was given the role of supervision of cremations.

On being contacted, Rout refuted the allegations brought against him. “I have been given the responsibility to supervise the cremations. I am discharging my duties properly. I have no clue about the stray dogs feasting on the bodies,” Rout said.
