Bhubaneswar: After the bike rally violence in Odisha’s Sambalpur Thursday, security has been tightened in six districts of the state where probability of violence are high during the Hanuman Jayanti procession scheduled to take place Friday, said a source.
To ensure a peaceful celebration, fresh batches of security forces have been deployed across Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Nabarangpur, and Koraput’s Jeypore, a source added.
Additional director general (law and order), RK Sharma said that the situation in Sambalpur is under control and as many as 35 platoons of forces have been deployed to ensure peace.
Sharma also directed all the SPs and DCPs of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to be extremely alert on issues related to communal harmony.
According to the source, cybercrime police stations are keeping eye on social media platforms to avoid circulation of hate messages.
Worth mentioning, security personnel conducted a flag march Thursday in Odisha’s violence-hit Sambalpur city, where internet services were suspended and security was tightened ahead of Hanuman Jayanti celebrations.
District collector Ananya Das, north central range IG Brijesh Ray, SP B Gangadhar along with security personnel conducted the flag march to instill confidence among the residents, who have restricted themselves indoors since Wednesday’s violence during a bike rally held ahead of the Hanuman Jayanti.
