Hyderabad: Chandramukhi star Jyothika turns a year older Wednesday. Born October 18, 1977, in Mumbai, Jyothika has also acted in Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi films.
Jyotika is one of the highest-paid actresses in South film industry. Though Jyothika started her film career in the Hindi film industry, she is more into southern film industry. It was during the filming of Kaakha Kaakha that Jyothika and Suriya fell in love.
When the film was released, the couple was believed to have gotten engaged. The engagement was a low-key affair, and it is said that Suriya got engaged to Jyothika to get some time to convince his parents about their relationship. After dating for seven years, the couple got married September 11, 2006. The Jyothika-Suriya wedding was a grand one.
Suriya and Jyothika first shared screen in 1999 film Poovellam Kettuppar. Since then, there have been reports of an affair between the two. Both have worked in seven films so far. The couple has two children, daughter Diya and a son Dev.
Jyothika made her acting debut in 1998 with the Hindi film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna. Later, she worked in Tamil films such as Mugavaree, Dumm Dumm Dumm, and Snegithiye.
Jyothika started her career in Tamil films with the movie Vaali. Jyothika has acted in 42 films in her 20-year film career. She also appeared in the Telugu superhit film Mass.
