New Delhi: Wished poured in for President Ram Nath Kovind as he turned 73 Monday. A former Governor of Bihar, Kovind assumed office as India’s head of state on July 25 last year.
“Best wishes to Rashtrapati Ji on his birthday,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet. “India has benefited greatly from his wisdom and perspectives on various subjects. He has connected wonderfully with every section of our society. I pray for his long and healthy life.”

Kovind entered politics in 1994, when he was elected as a Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh. He has worked as a top aide to former Prime Minister Morarji Desai and has represented India at the United Nations in New York.
He became the first Indian president to conduct three consecutive state visits to Africa.
