Mumbai: If you have seen the movie ‘Tridev’ and ‘Vishwatma’, then you must surely remember the ‘Oye Oye’ girl Sonam.

Sonam’s real name is Bakhtavar Khan and she was known as a bold actress in the 90s.

Producers were ready to put everything at stake just to cast her in their films. It was a period when the actresses were reluctant to wear a bikini. If any actress wore a bikini, then it became headline news. But Sonam was undaunted.

Born 2 September 1972, today is Sonam’s birthday.

She started her career with the 1988 film ‘Vijay’. In this film, Sonam shot some very intimate scenes making her one of the b*ldest actresses in the industry.

Films like ‘Vijay’ and ‘Tridev’ made her an overnight star. Not only this, after the release of the song ‘Oye Oye’ in ‘Tridev’, she earned the moniker of ‘Oye Oye girl’. After a year of the release of ‘Tridev’, she did ‘Mitti Aur Sona’ (1989) opposite Chunky Pandey but no one even noticed him. Sonam gave some very temperature raising scenes.

In this film, Sonam was also shot some nude scenes raising a lot of eyebrows. Soon after the release of the film, it created a stir at the box office. In those times, giving such scenes was considered a very big thing. Regarding this film, it is also said that people used to buy tickets for the film by spending hours in line but left the cinemas after watching Sonam’s nude scenes.

Although Sonam appeared in films like ‘Aakhri Adaalat’ and ‘Tridev’, she left movies after marriage. Later, Sonam and her husband left India and settled abroad due to frequent death threats from the underworld.

Sonam is an actress who retired at the peak of her career and has never had to face any downfall. However, she got divorced from Rajiv Rai in the year 2016. After breaking the 25-year marriage, Sonam once again married to a Dr. Murali Poduval. Sonam is now living her life away from limelight.
