Today on his birthday, let’s discuss about the person in Rajinikanth’s life without whom he calls himself ‘incomplete’. She is none other than his wife Lata. Since their marriage Lata has stood like a rock with Rajinikanth during all his times, good or bad.
In 1980, Rajinikanth was shooting for Balachander’s Tamil film Thillu Mullu. It was the actor’s first comedy film. He received a request for an interview from a college magazine during the shoot. The woman who was to take the interview was none other than Lata Rangachari. Rajinikanth reportedly fell in love with her at first sight.
Both were very comfortable during the interview because they both had a Bangalore connection. Post-interview, Rajinikanth proposed to Lata for marriage. She was surprised to hear Rajinikanth’s proposal. However, she did not refuse him. Lata smiled and said that she would have to talk to her parents.
The two immediately decided not to meet their parents and gave each other some time to know each other better. However, Rajinikanth confessed to close friend and Tamil cinema comedian YG Mahendran about his feelings for Lata. Later on Lata’s sister went on to marry Mahendran.
Rajinikanth was quite nervous about his future. However, Lata’s parents agreed to the proposal and they tied the nuptial knot February 26, 1981.
