Phulbani: A hardcore Maoist involved in many offensives in past surrendered before the Superintendent of Police (SP), Kandhamal district Sunday.
The surrendered ultra was identified as Rahul Mushaki, 24, alias Pintu, a resident of Talat village under Kanta police limits of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh.
Pintu had studied till class-VIII and was involved many offensives carried out by the ultras in past after joining the Maoist outfit in 2015. He was associated with VamshadharaGhumusar-Nagabali division in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.
In 2017, he was transferred to Odisha cadre and joined the KKBN division of Maoists. He was working under the leadership of Maoist leader Shivaji in Kandhamal district.
Police suspect he might be involved in various offensives launched by the ultras in the district in past. The main reason for his surrender was the developmental activities undertaken by the state government.
He said that he realised the futility of the violent path of Maoists and thus decided to join the main stream.
The Maoists while opposing development are also using the gullible tribals to serve their vested interests and killing them on the slightest pretext on suspicion of being a police informer, he said.
There has been an increase in regular anti-Naxalite operation in interior areas of Kandhamal district and subsequent continuous fear of police action also contributed to his surrender.
He also admitted that he had been fed up with the unnecessary civilian killings by the party, even after the protests by the locals. He has also appealed to the Maoists cadres to give up arms and join the main stream.
Musaki will get monetary assistance as per the surrender and rehabilitation scheme of the state government.
He will also get financial assistance for building house, pursuing studies and getting trained for an occupation of his will, SP Vinit Agarwal said.
