Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Tuesday ordered a Crime Branch (CB) probe into the incident in which police personnel allegedly attacked a lawyer here August 28.
Sources said a DSP-rank officer will investigate the incident.The next hearing of the case will be held Monday.
The court order comes in the wake of Cuttack Bar Association and Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum filing two petitions in connection with the incident. They demanded a judicial probe by a sitting HC judge and arrest of the errant police officials.
Earlier August 30, two days after the lawyer was attacked by police personnel near Nua Bazaar Bridge here, Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Akhilesvar Singh suspended constables BK Samal and UK Bhuyan and Havildar PK Behera for the police excesses.
Meanwhile, the agitating lawyers continue to boycott work and will take a decision on their next course of action Wednesday.
