Heatwave warning: Odisha to reel under blistering heat over next three days

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Wednesday issued a yellow warning for heatwave conditions in several districts of Odisha over the next three days.

The weather agency forecasted maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to rise slightly about 2 degree at a few places in the state over next two days.

It is likely to be above normal range by 3-5 degree Celsius at a few places over the districts of Odisha. Consequently, hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over the next four or five days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside from 11am to 3pm.

The weather agency further flagged a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms in several districts of Odisha.

Upto 8.30 AM of June 8: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heatwave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the district of Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nuapada districts, the IMD bulletin stated.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda and at one or two places over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of June 8 to 8.30 AM of June 9: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heatwave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Khurda, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Jagatsinghpur districts. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, rain or thundershower towards the evening or afternoon is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 41 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 43.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Jharsuguda while the lowest minimum temperature of 22.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Phulbani, the bulletin informed.
