Jagatsinghpur: A man who had been rescued by the cops from Daagaon school of Adhang panchayat under Balikuda police limits in Jagatsinghpur district October 5 with heavy burn injuries and breathed his last shortly after was Monday identified by his wife Rashmita.
The deceased has been identified as Krushna Chandra Champatiray (28), a resident of Kanchanpur under Chandpur police limits in Nayagarh district. Rashmita alleged that Krushna has been murdered.
According to the complaint, Krushna had been working as a labourer in Ahmadabad and had come to the village few days back. October 5, he left for Ahmadabad, but went to Jagatsinghpur instead. He was involved in a romantic affair with another woman prior to his marriage. This could have led to his murder, Rashmita noted in her complaint.
Balikuda police had received a call at about 11:00pm October 5 about a man struggling for his life at the Daagaon school building.
When the police reached the spot, the man was alive and he could only say in broken words he was from Khurda. But he breathed his last while he was about to be shifted to the hospital. His left hand had an injury. Clothes on his body were completely burnt. The police had seized a knife, match sticks and a pair of slippers from the crime scene.
Most importantly, about 70 per cent of Krushna’s body was found to have been burnt but his head and hair were intact. If he had set himself on fire, he would most probably have poured the fuel from head first and his head would have also caught fire. Besides, there would have been a container near the body. All these things have given credence to the murder angle as alleged by the deceased’s wife.
When contacted, Balikuda inspector-in-charge Sarveswar Behera said the unnatural death case would be converted into a murder case on the basis of the complaint lodged by the deceased’s wife and further investigation would put more light on the allegation.
