Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places in Odisha and at isolated places in the north Costal Andhra Pradesh Monday due to the influence of cyclonic storm, ‘Phethai’. The IMD also warned of heavy rainfall at most places in Odisha.
The IMD has said the storm has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and lay centred at west central and adjoining southwest of Bay of Bengal. It is moving in the direction of further north-northwestwards with a speed of 40 kmph.
Rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy fall is expected along coastal Andhra Pradesh and extremely heavy falls (20 cm) at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh (East and west Godavari, Vishakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts) and Yanam district of Puducherry.
While the sky remained overcast in many parts of the state Sunday, districts like Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and Kalahandi are expected to be lashed by heavy rain by Monday afternoon, the Meteorological Centre here said in a late night bulletin.
Many places in Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Baragarh, Bolangir, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts would experience heavy rainfall Monday, it said. The MeT centre forecast light to moderate rainfall and thundershower in many places, mainly south Odisha districts, till December 18.
