Bhubaneswar: Intense spells of rain pummeled Bhubaneswar, Puri and several other parts of Odisha Saturday, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The temple town of Puri recorded 87 mm of rain between 8.30 am and 11.30 am, while Bhubaneswar received 24.6 mm of rain during the period, the Met office said.
Several roads in the state capital were inundated, leading to traffic congestion in many areas, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said.
There is a possibility of intense rain of 20-30 mm per hour at intervals over the next few days, the Met office said.
A cyclonic circulation lies over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and a low-pressure area is set to form over the region in the next 24 hours. The weather system is expected to intensify further during the subsequent 24 hours.
The Met Department issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Malkangiri, Boudh and Koraput districts till Sunday morning.
