Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon will intensify and lash many parts of Odisha with heavy rainfall in districts like Puri, Khurda and Ganjam in the next 24 hours, said regional meteorological center of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here Tuesday.
Latest Doppler radar and weather imageries indicate that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind and heavy rainfall is likely to occur over the above districts, a Met bulletin said.
The weatherman also informed that the southwest monsoon has already covered most parts of the state including Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Angul, Boudh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Balangir and Nuapada districts. Remaining parts of the state are likely to be covered by the monsoon within the next 24 hours.
The overall rainfall activity over the state is also expected to increase in a day or two under the influence of a cyclonic circulation formed over north-west Bay of Bengal.
Meanwhile, many parts of the state including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Betanati of Mayurbhanj and Kendrapara received moderate rainfall this morning.
