Heavy rainfall likely in southern Orissa

Bhubaneswar, August 7: A fresh upper air cyclonic circulation that is persisting over north Chhattisgarh and its neighbouring areas is likely to trigger heavy rainfall at one or two places of southern Orissa during the next 24 hours.
The Meteorological Centre here has predicted that heavy rain or thundershower could lash parts of Malkangiri and Koraput in the next 24 hours as a result of the fresh system in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Friday detected two more upper air cyclonic circulations over north and west central Bay of Bengal respectively that may convert to a low pressure area, but is less likely to trigger rain over the state.
The rainfall activity remained dismal over the state in the past 24 hours with the Met center has recorded a mere 5 mm rain over Malkangiri and 2 mm over Bolangir. Other places remained mostly dry during the period.
Meteorologists have further predicted that rain or thundershower will occur at many places over the state in an erratic manner. “The rainfall will remain the same across the state with one or two places likely to witness heavy rain till August 14,” said sources at the Met Centre here.
