Heavy rainfall to lash in south Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that south Odisha is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places from October 23 to October 25, under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal.

According to HR Biswas, Director of IMD, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Puri, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Bolangir are likely to have heavy rainfall alert October 23 while Gajapati, Ganjam, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Puri, Khurda, Nabarangpur, and Cuttack will experience the same October 24.

Heavy to very heavy downpour is likely to occur in some places of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Nayagarh October 25, he added.

In view of the forecast, the state relief commissioner has issued an advisory to the district Collectors to remain alert and take necessary measures according to the situation. The commissioner also asked them to closely monitor the situation as heavy rains may create flood-like situation in these areas.
