Berhampur: Triple-digit rainfall to the tune of 103 mm was recorded at Berhampur till 8:30am Thursday leading to waterlogging at many places in the town.
The low pressure induced incessant rains flooded low-lying areas of the town disrupting life at many places and leading to chaotic traffic conditions.
People residing in Gajapatinagar, Gandhinagar, Tulasinagar, Brajanagar and Laxminrushinha Sahi had to face a harrowing time owing to waterlogging in their areas.
Water gushed into many houses in these areas while roads remained submerged with knee-deep water. Several areas and major roads remained waterlogged for hours while a number of vehicles remained stuck in water.
That said, the Berhampur municipality has swung into action to tackle the situation and has deployed pumps to discharge the water.
Meanwhile, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfalls in Ganjam and neighbouring districts to continue till Friday owing to the low pressure area in Bay of Bengal.
