Cuttack: Heavy rains wrecked havoc across the state Thursday afternoon with Cuttack being the worst-hit. Heavy downpour every day since past seven days has inundated several parts of the silver city causing untold miseries to the denizens.
The situation was made worse by the one-hour-long heavy rains witnesses Thursday afternoon here. Several parts of the city including Badambadi, Link Road, Ravenshaw College, SCB Medical College and Hospital, Manglabag, LIC colony, Christ College, Jhola Sahi, Rausapatna, College Square and Station Square among others were inundated.
The entire stretch of the service road was also flooded by drain water leading to disruptions in traffic. A number of vehicles were seen trapped and stranded.
Local residents blamed Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) for its failure to clear overflowing drains in the locality.
That said, CMC Commissioner Ananya Das said, “Waterlogging owing to heavy rainfall takes place in low lying areas, but the situation has improved when compared to earlier days. CMC releases water with large pump sets every time we receive complaints of waterlogging.”
SCB Medical College and Hospital:
Heavy rains led to overflowing of drains in SCB Medical College and Hospital campus following which water entered X-ray and surgery departments. The X-ray machines had to be turned off to protect it from damages. That said, medical emergency officer Bhubananda Moharana assured that healthcare services remain unaffected as of now. He also assured to do the necessary to prevent water ingress into departments.
Ravenshaw University:
Ravenshaw University in Cuttack was flooded with knee-deep water. Student of the university had a tough time reaching their departments as standing rainwater took a lot of time to get drained. The drain water from clogged drains, meanwhile, added to the woes by entering the university campus.
