Koraput: The authorities have made heavy security arrangements in Koraput to ensure free and fair elections Thursday. 27 platoons of the State Armed Force (SAF) and 25 BSF platoons have been deployed across Koraput amid intensified anti-Maoist combing operations.
Koraput SP Kanwar Bishal Singh said 25 BSF companies have been deployed to assist the 27 SAF platoons.
Around 2,000 personnel from the police, Home Guards and the SOG have been deployed in the 1,141 polling booths in the district, the SP said, adding that all candidates have been asked to go by SOP.
The massive security arrangements were made in the district keeping in view the landmine blast carried out by Maoists in Chhattisgarh where five people including a BJP MLA were killed Tuesday.
All entry points in border areas of the district have been sealed and combing has been stepped up in Maoist pockets, the SP added. He said that additional forces have been deployed in these areas.
