Cuttack: Orissa High Court today rejected a plea seeking removal of cap on the height of Durga idols during Durga Puja 2021 and asked Durga puja committees to adhere to the rules imposed by the state government.
Earlier, the state government had imposed restrictions on the height of Durga idol above 4 feet in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. Opposing the state government’s decision, a petition was filed by Balu Bazar Puja Committee in the High Court.
The committee sought an increase in height of idol for the festival this year.
However, the High Court rejected the plea. Now, the height of all the Durga idols should not exceed 4 feet as per state government’s guidelines.
Worth mentioning, the Cuttack Nagar BJP had earlier called for a 12-hour bandh opposing the restrictions imposed by the state government.
