Bhubaneswar: In a bid to curb the rising instances of crime against women in the Capital City, the Commissionerate Police Thursday announced a specialized team- HER (High Efficiency and Response) to deal with cases related to eve-teasing, stalking, harassment and misbehaviour, particularly for women travelling home in late hours.
Along with that, the police have launched dedicated helplines 6372500400 and 112 where victims can lodge impromptu complaints. They can also lodge complaints over e-mail at: [email protected] Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said Thursday that the HER team will be managed by female cops who would remain alert round-the-clock and provide immediate assistance to those seeking help. “The move would be of great help to women travelling at late hours or returning home late at night,” he added. ACP Anjana Tudu, who is heading the team, said assistance would arrive at the spot within 15 minutes of the receipt of the complaint.
“Otherwise, the team will coordinate with the nearest police station for timely action,” she said. For complaints made from the City outskirts, the team would contact local police stations for assistance, she said. According to the 2022-23 NCRB report released by Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Bhubaneswar recorded a total of 564 cases of crime against women, including 31 cases of assault.
