Here women tend animals by feeding them milk

A woman breastfeeding her baby is a common sight, but have you ever heard or seen a tribe which breastfeeds animals. Yes, you have read it correctly… this tribe does breastfeed baby animals and nurture them as if they are extended family members.

The women of this particular tribe regularly breastfeeds squirrels and small animals like monkeys. The tribe members looks after the animals till they become ready to fend for themselves. This has been happening for centuries.

Brazilian tribe named ‘Awa’ or ‘Guaja’ has this tradition. They live in a remote region in the eastern Amazon forests of Brazil. The forests which have seen raging fires even a few weeks back.

When the existence of this Brazilian tribe became known for the first, the number of people in it stood approximately at 500. Now however, the tribe has diminished in size and comprises 300 persons. The members of the tribe have no idea of the world that exists beyond the boundaries of the forest.

Researchers and scientists have found out that members of the tribe remain naked throughout the year. They move from one part of the forest to another in search of food and adapt to all forms of climatic conditions. During the bitter winters they cover themselves with leave to get relief.

Recently however, they are slowly coming into contact with people. They have approached the Brazilian government for a permanent place to reside.
