Cemeteries usually charge a very minimal fee to bury dead bodies. But there is a country where land has to be bought to bury your dead. But the thing is a tiny patch of land here could cost you crores of rupees.
Hong Kong is a very tiny country and is fast running out of space. People here have to pay about Rs 1 crore 58 lakh for a small piece of land for burial.
In Hong Kong, people cannot buy a final resting place even if they have all the money in the world. To tackle this problem, people have started burning the corpses instead of burying them. The problem does not stop there as some people want to bury the ashes after burning the bodies.
Due to the rising prices of land, people are keeping the ashes of the dead bodies in government lockers. The situation is such that in Hong Kong about four lakh are in line to get the ashes of their loved ones buried.
According to media reports, people have to pay about 22 rupees annually to keep the remains in government lockers, but there is a big problem here too. People also have to wait years for lockers.
However, due to lack of space in government lockers, people have started keeping ashes in private lockers here too. These lockers are in a size of shoe box, with little space.
