Here's why this Nuapada truck owner had to pay Rs 3 lakh in fine

Nuapada: The Commercial Tax & GST Enforcement Unit in Nuapada Saturday collected a fine of whopping Rs 3,04,932 from a truck owner and released his vehicle that was seized earlier.

According to a source, a squad of the Commercial Tax and GST Enforcement Unit led by Deputy Commissioner Priyabrata Gartiya had stopped a truck September 16 for checking. The truck was heading from Raipur to Khariar road. The squad conducted a search and found the truck to be carrying iron bars weighing 25.6 tonnes.

When grilled, the driver failed to produce any valid documents for transporting such a huge quantity of iron bars.

This was then the owner of the truck was served a notice, informing him about the fine amounting to Rs 3,04,932 being levied on his vehicle for illegal transportation of goods. Thereafter several notices were served. And finally, after 10 days since the seizure of the vehicle, the truck owner deposited the fine and got his vehicle released Saturday.
