Bhubaneswar: After a review on the situation in cyclone-hit Puri district, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday announced additional package for the affected people in the district.
“Kerosene oil at the rate of 2.5 litres per family will be made available free of cost every 10 days in the affected areas till the restoration of power. Rice at the rate of 50 kg per family will be made available for all non-ration card holders also,” he told reporters in Puri.
The Chief Minister also said 10 lakh candles will be available in the next few days for free distribution and his government will supply sanitary napkins free of cost to all for the next two months.
House building damage and other assessment as per Relief Code has commenced and will be completed within a week, Naveen said.
Stating that Puri district gets its electricity sourced through three lines all of which were badly damaged, he said and indicated that thousands of workers are engaged round the clock on a war-footing basis and one phase line will get restored by Wednesday evening.
With this one-phase restoration of power supply in Puri town, Nimapara NAC and Konark NAC the situation wiould be better by Thursday, he said and appealed to everyone to cooperate with the government in this humongous task.
“I am deeply saddened by damage caused to Puri. I assure the people that we will turn Puri into a world class heritage city,” he added.
Earlier, the CM had announced a package including rice and monetary assistance for all in cyclone Fani affected districts including Puri.
