Heroin worth Rs 3 lakh seized, two arrested in Puri

Puri: Two persons have been arrested from Puri district after excise officials seized heroin weighing 24 grams worth Rs 3 lakh from their possession, police said Monday.

This incident took place at Nimapara Bazaar in Puri district. It is learnt that one of them is a son of a police officer. They have been taken in custody for their alleged involvement in drug peddling.

The accused have been identified as Satya Ranjan Das and Shantanu Das, an undergraduate student of SCS Autonomous College in Puri and son of Delang police station Sub-inspector (SI) Upendranath Das. Shantanu’s mother is also serving as a police SI.

According to police official, the accused duo was peddling drug in Puri and Nimapara areas. Acting on a tip-off, cops came to know that both were returning from Bhubaneswar on a scooter loaded with herion. An Excise team intercepted the two-wheeler at Nimapara Bazaar and apprehended the accused.
