Higher Edu dept makes biometric attendance mandatory for Secretariat staff

Bhubaneswar:  The higher education department has made it mandatory for its Secretariat staff to register their attendance on biometric system on working days.

According to the department, the employees are now required to give their biometric attendance on a daily basis while coming to office and leaving.

“Every employee is required to record his/her in and out timing in the biometric attendance recording device. Non-recording of the biometric attendance will be treated as absence of the employee,” a recent order issued by the department read.

It further added that the order needs to be implemented with immediate effect.

The decision of the department is aimed at improving the efficiency of the administration and to make it more citizens centric.

This apart, the government has also revised the day-to-day working hours in the government offices. The officials now need to work from 10:00am to 5:30pm with a break of 30 minutes. The employees must be present in the office for a minimum duration of 7 hours and 30 minutes.
