Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: Dance, music, and fireworks that is how the opening ceremony of the third edition of the HIL can be described in a nutshell. Hockey fans of the city were enthralled with a belated ‘Happy New Year’ treat as two of their favourites actors Sabyasachi and Archita danced to the tunes ‘kahte hain hamko pyar se India wale’ from Shah Rukh Khan’s 2014 blockbuster during the inaugural function at the Kalinga Stadium here Thursday.
Before the song and dance routine, over 6,000 fans who had gathered were mesmerised with a laser show before the actors left them spellbound by performing on popular Oriya and Hindi songs, while famous Bollywood actor Perizaad Zorabian unwrapped the show and welcomed the spectators at the scintillating evening.
It wasn’t just Shah Rukh’s ‘Sab ke chhakke chhura de ham India wale’ but also ‘Rangbati Rangabati’, ‘Mu eka tumara’, ‘Dance Basanti’ and ‘Sweety alo sweety’ that reverberated around the stadium before Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik declared the HIL 2015 open.
“I wish success for the Hockey India League and the Kalinga Lancers,” the CM said. State minister of Industries Debi Prasad Mishra, HI chairman Narendra Batra and CEO Elena Norman accompanied the CM during the inaugural ceremony.
As soon as the CM declared the tournament open, the entire stadium was lit up with fireworks, signaling it was time for some serious hockey to begin.
