Hindi film actresses who failed as businesswomen

The Hindi film industry’s not-so-secret sexist nature makes even the most successful of actresses have a temporary shelf-life in the industry.

Therefore, many actresses resort to production, endorsements and a ton of other ventures to keep their career afloat once Hindi cinema fails them. There are many who dabbled in the world of business too. Some became successful while some failed quite miserably.

Here is a list of such actresses who failed at their business ventures.

Ameesha Patel

Having started her career with a blockbuster like ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’, Ameesha never quite lived up to the hype. After a string of box office flops she launched her own production house called Desi Magic in 2013.

Six years have passed but we still haven’t seen a single film from her production company. In fact, the one film that was announced by her called ‘Bhaiyyaji Superhit’ has been in the making since 2012.

Lara Dutta

Lara Dutta beat Priyanka Chopra to the Miss Universe crown in 2000 and had a great debut in the film industry with ‘Andaaz’.

However, her acting career never really took off despite starring in several films. Following her marriage with India’s tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi, Lara opened her own production house called Big Daddy Production. The company produced just one film ‘Chalo Dilli’ and no one has heard anything from Big Daddy ever since.  Even her clothing line called ‘Chhabra 555’ failed to become successful.

Preeti Jhangiani

Preeti Jhangiani made her debut with the highly successful ‘Mohabbatein’. After failing to make a mark in the industry with a string of flops, she along with her husband Parvin Dabas started their own production company called Very Fishy Films. The company has produced just one film so far. Despite some good reviews ‘Sahi Dhande Galat Bande’ failed at the box office.

Kim Sharma

Kim Sharma too made her debut with ‘Mohabbatein’ and just like Jhangiani, her film career never quite took off. After marrying Kenya based businessman Ali Punjani, she dabbled her hand in business. Reports suggest that the actress lost some serious money in hotel business, shut it down and is currently running a bridal makeover salon.
