Sambalpur, July 14: Even as seven sluice gates of Hirakud reservoir were opened Monday to drain excess rain water, the water-level of the dam reached at 614.73 ft by Tuesday evening against its water retaining capacity 630 ft.
No new gate was opened Tuesday. Currently, 60,756 cusec of water is entering into the dam while 1; 15,928 cusec water is released from it, said dam’s executive engineer Yashowant Parida.
Rainfall of 3.7 mm was recorded in the upper catchment area of the dam, while the lower catchment area recorded 3 mm, informed sources in the Met department.
The district recorded rainfall of 0.51 mm by Tuesday afternoon and 254.63 mm between July 1 and 14, said the district emergency department.
Several places of western Orissa will experience rainfall during the next 24 hours. Cloudy weather prevailed in Sambalpur, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, Deogarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh districts throughout Tuesday. The weather will continue for the next 48 hour, the Met department added.
