Sajanagad: Brajakishore Jena, a sculptor of Soro in Balasore, is deeply saddened by the large-scale destruction of humanity that had taken place in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan due to nuclear bombs during the World War-II. The scar has been so deep in his hearts that he has carved out the heart rending scenes in some of block of stones.
Jena never wants such situation to ever arise in the word in future and always wants peace to prevail. To check misuse of nuclear power and protect the beautiful world from destruction, he has made some sculptures that will promote peace at a time when war mongering by some nations has led to cloud of nuclear war.
The sculptor has also deep concern over miserable condition of poor tribals in the state.
Jena nurtures hopes to send those sculptures to President Ramnath Kovind so that he can offer them to the Presidents of Russia, China and North Korea.
He had offered a stone sculpted statue of Mahatma Gandhi to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi June 2, 2016 when the latter visited Balasore. The statue depicted Gandhi trying to piece together the broken figurines of his three famous Monkeys. He had urged the Prime Minister to works towards the dreams of India as envisioned by Gandhi.
Jena had also offered an oil painting of a poor tribal to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik with hope that he would pay attention to welfare and protection of neglected tribals.
His other stone, wood , soil and paper sculptures reflect global camaraderie, patriotism and welfare of the neglected people.
Jena has earned a name for himself at the state, the national and the international level. His paintings and sculptures have won accolades at Malaysia, Bhutan and Barazil.
Besides, he has been teaching various forms of art to unemployed youths free of cost. “I feel proud of my students who have earned their names at the state, the national and international levels and eke out their living,” he added.
He earns Rs 10,000 a month to feed his family. That apart, he has written several anthologies of poems like Bhrasthachar, Apurba Milan, Padap Bilap, Sastha Ritu.
He lives at Gohirapada, a village on the foothill of Debagiri hill in Kuladiha sanctuary. He has formed laxmi Naryana Cooparative Socieity for artisans in 1985 at Uttareswar in Soro.
