History-sheeter nabbed after police encounter in silver city

Cuttack: Cracking a major whip against history-sheeters in the silver city, the Commissionerate Police nabbed wanted criminal Gurucharan Patra alias Guria following an encounter near New Market Complex in Jagatpur area Sunday night.

Acting on a tip-off about Guria’s presence on the Mahanadi river bed, the special squad of the Twin City police raided the spot at around 8.50 pm. In the fear of apprehension, Guria open fired at the police officials and attempted escape.

However, Guria was nabbed after he sustained bullet injuries on his left thigh in retaliatory firing by the cops.

Police also seized a 7.6 mm pistol, one live bullet and one empty cartridge from his possession.

Guria has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.

The held criminal has four cases pending against him in Jagatpur Police Station and two cases in Salipur Police Station.
