Hockey Men’s World Cup: CS wants infra projects executed by Sept

Bhubaneswar: Reviewing the progress made in executing infrastructure projects undertaken for the Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi Wednesday asked officials to complete all the projects by September.

The Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 will be held from November 28 to December 16 at the Kalinga Stadium here.

Padhi reviewed the projects being implemented for beautification of the city including redevelopment of roads, electrification, parking facilities and construction of foot overbridge.

Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) vice-chairman Krishan Kumar said four major beautification and infrastructure projects would be completed very soon.

Some important city bus stops will be renovated and flowerbeds will be raised on major roads including Janpath, he added.

Similarly, wall paintings will be done on major roads and squares keeping Hockey Men’s World Cup perspective like what was done during the Asian Athletics Championships.

The underground cabling project of Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) will be completed ahead of the schedule, said Kumar.

About 200 modern buses will be procured for the event. The government has already signed an agreement with Tata and Ashok Leyland and they will start supplying the new buses from September 15.

The Bhubaneswar Operations Centre (BOC) has started functioning and two helpline numbers have been issued to report the problems of city residents. The numbers are 18003450061 and 0674-2548295.
