Bhubaneswar: Highly popular superhero movies such as Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool and movies based on cartoon characters such as Beauty and Beasts and Frozen have created a huge market for special events like birthdays with such cinematic themes.
Nowadays, many event planners for birthday parties for kids in the city are focusing on those themes. The event managers bring in the magic of superheroes with specific decorations that include posters, pictures, and other such paraphernalia.
Abhishek Khemka of Events Kart said that superheroes such as Iron Man, Thor and Hulk excite kids. He said that the recent success of the superhero movies such as the Avengers and Deadpool 1 and 2 has given a new boost to the superhero theme parties in the city.
This year, till now, we had got more than 20 theme-based parties, all centred on Marvel heroes such as Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk etc. Not only Marvel and DC, but cartoon character themed parties are also in huge demand, Abhishek said. The theme-based events contributed more than 15 percent of whole event planning business in the city, he added.
At such parties, Abhishek said, we had to focus on everything from decoration of the place to catering. We put big cut-outs of the superheroes in the premises. Besides, we also prepare dishes accordingly and name them after superheroes, he said. Needless to say managing such events take a lot of planning.
Avinash Das of Party Sarty, another event planner, said the average cost of a special party ranges from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh, depending on the venue and theme.
Normally, parents prefer places such as open parks rather than the banquet halls. Apart from superheroes, some kids also want other cartoon characters and animated movies such as Motu Patlu, Mickey Mouse, Jungle Bookand Frozen as the theme for the parties.
Avinash said that the kids’ demands have to be taken care of while organising such parties because the event is for them and it must be liked by them and their friends. We arrange people who are dressed as superhero characters to entertain the children attending the event, he said.
Utkal of LA Lawns said that you have to show a lot of creativity at the theme parties compared to marriage functions where you have specific work which is traditional and regular. But, in theme parties, we have to arrange things which are not easily available and we have to prepare very much in advance. These parties are arranged either in open parks if the party is in the night or in houses if it is in the day.
Smita Jena, a parent, who had organised a theme-based event for her niece, said that the special parties based on the cartoon characters excite them; they want to live like that and the theme parties give them a chance to relive the characters. My niece Aahana is a big fan of Frozen animated movie and that’s why we had decided to create the theme based on the Frozen cartoon, Smita said.
