Balishankara: A home guard was bludgeoned to death with a spade at Talsara village under this block in Sundargarh district Sunday. The deceased was identified as Nabin Chandra Mahakul (59) and the body was found in a temple near the village.
The matter came to the light after locals spotted his body lying in a pool of blood.
According to reports, the farmers held a prayer meet in the village to appease the rain god. The villagers sacrificed some goats during the meet. After the puja, everyone left for their homes. However, Mahakul’s mutilated body was spotted near the temple later in the evening.
Hundreds of locals thronged the spot after the news and informed the police.
A police team arrived at the village and launched a probe. The police also recovered a scapegoat’s head from the spot.
After getting information, Sundargarh SDPO Balabhadra Deep also reached the village. The police also detained the temple servitor for interrogation.
