Home guard electrocuted while erecting flagstaff ahead of Independence Day celebrations

Khurda: A home guard was electrocuted and another policeman sustained grievous injuries as they came in contact with an 11KV livewire while erecting the flagstaff for hoisting the National Flag Sunday morning, a source said.

The mishap took place at Siko police outpost under Jankia police limits in Khurda district while preparations for the Independence Day celebration was going on.

According to the source, the deceased home guard was identified as Dhaneswar Das and the injured constable as Birakishore Bhol. The duo fell unconscious after coming in contact with the electric wire.

Some other policemen present at the outpost immediately rushed to the spot to rescue the injured cops. Later, the injured were sent to Khurda district headquarters hospital (DHH) for treatment. However, doctors at the health facility declared Dhaneswar as dead on arrival.

Birakishore was shifted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar as his condition deteriorated.
