Home guard run over after jumping from running train

Rayagada: In a tragic incident, a police home guard here died after jumping from a running train at Rayagada Railway Station, Sunday night. The deceased was identified as B Harishankar Rao, 58. He was posted at the district police headquarters at Rayagada. According to sources, Harishankar had gone to Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, Sunday morning. While returning he boarded the OkhaPuri express train running via Rayagada. But later when he came to know that the train was going on a different track and would not stop at Rayagada station, he allegedly jumped from the train but unfortunately fell on the track and the train ran over him.

Immediately after the incident, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) informed SP Vivekanand Sharma and sent the body to district headquarters hospital (DHH) for post-mortem.

Informed, SP Sharma immediately reached the hospital. On the other hand, rumours were flying in the town that Harishankar committed suicide, which was rejected by his relatives and close friends. Upon asking GRP DSP Debendra Pingua said Harishankar fell on the track while jumping from the running train and the train ran over him leading to his death. The actual reason behind his death will be ascertained after getting the post-mortem report, he added.
