Bhubaneswar: A suspended lady home guard Kanchan Patra attempted self-immolation at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here Tuesday.
According to available information, the woman doused herself with kerosene and tried set herself afire. However, police personnel deployed at the spot thwarted the attempt and rescued her.
She was rushed to Capital Hospital with burn injuries on her leg.
On being asked about the reason behind the bid, the victim attributed it to the DCP not assigning her any duty.

Following the cases, she was removed by the Home department under Rule 8 of the Home Guard Act November 30, 2013. She had also filed a writ petition at the High Court but later withdrew the petition.
