Home remedies to ward off mosquitoes

Every year, millions of people die due to diseases caused by mosquitoes. Mosquito bites cause diseases like malaria, dengue and chikungunya. Therefore it is advisable to keep the surroundings clean to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.

Itching caused due to mosquito bites also affect us. Many types of sprays, incense sticks, electric bait, etc. are available in the market to ward off mosquitoes. But there are some home remedies to ward off mosquitoes.

Neem oil

Neem oil is effective in warding off mosquitoes. According to a study published in the Journal of the Mosquito Control Association of America, applying coconut and Neem oil in equal amounts over the body prevents mosquitoes from biting. Mosquitoes run away from the smell of neem which is rich in antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties.

 Peppermint                           

Peppermint essential oil is a natural deterrent against mosquitoes and flying insects. Use peppermint oil alone or in a homemade insect spray to effectively repel mosquitoes, gnats and horseflies. Bugs may not like peppermint oil, but kids and adults usually enjoy its fresh, energizing scent.

Tulsi

It is very effective in removing larvae of mosquitoes. If you place a Tulsi plant near the window in the room, the mosquitoes will not enter the house. This is also mentioned in Ayurveda.

Camphor

The use of camphor can be very helpful to ward off mosquitoes. To ward off mosquitoes, close the doors and windows of the room and burn the camphor. After this, keep the room closed for 15 to 20 minutes.
