Honeybee scare grips villagers

Champua: Residents of Bhanda and Tala Sahi villages under this block in Keonjhar district are going through a nightmarish experience as over hundred beehives on a peepal tree near a temple have made life hell for them, a report said.

There is not a single day when villagers and children visiting the Anganwadi do not get stung by the bees. Sources said there are over 100 beehives on a peepal tree near a temple in close proximity to the Anganwadi. People fear to go near the Anganwadi or the temple for fear of getting stung by the insects.

Students of a primary school and the Shiva temple visitors bear the brunt of the bees. The scare is high when hundreds of people gather in the temple at the time of Mahashivaratri.

The honeybees also unleash a reign of terror when smoke billows out of the Anganwadi kitchen.

There are also instances when people and children visiting the Anganwadi and school have been rendered critical after being stung by the bees. As a result, villagers are least interested in sending their children to Anganwadi or to the temple.

The villagers have demanded a permanent solution to the problem.
