Sonepur: Vigilance sleuths arrested Sunday a junior assistant of Biramaharajpur sub-divisional veterinary hospital in Subarnapur district for taking a bribe of Rs 15,000.
The accused has been identified as Golak Bihari Podha.
Police informed that Podha had taken the bribe from Dr Narayan Meher who was absent from duty for some personal reasons from February 2017 to April 2019.
During this period he also did not get his salary. After resumption of duties, the vet doctor requested Podha to release his backlog salary. However, Podha demanded Rs 20,000 for the work.
Initially, Dr Meher paid him the amount, but even then Podha did not release the former’s salary. He demanded an additional Rs 15,000 for doing the same.
Meher then approached the Vigilance Department and lodged a complaint. A trap was laid and Meher went to Podha’s quarters to pay Rs 15,000. When Podha was accepting the money, he was caught red-handed by Vigilance officials.
The specially coloured notes were seized from Podha’s pockets. He was arrested and produced in court Sunday itself. After Podha’s bail application was rejected, he was taken to prison.
