Purunakatak: As many as eight inmates of Adenigad-based SC&ST residential girls hostel under Harbhanga block in Boudh district fell ill after allegedly consuming stale food provided in the hostel mess, reports said.
The girls were affected by diarrhea and experienced vomiting. After their condition deteriorated, they were admitted to the local community health centre (CHC).
Those admitted to the CHC were Suryalaxmi Kanhar, Surabhi Behera, Ranjita Mallick, Runi Dehuri, Subhalaxmi Kangaro, Pinky Mallick, Subhasmita Mallick and Dipti Mallick.
The girls had to be administered saline as they had become extremely weak. However, there has been a slight improvement in their condition after treatment, doctors said.
The incident raised questions on the quality of food provided in the hostel. When contacted, officials said providing stale food to the hostel inmates was strictly prohibited. If the allegations are true, a probe would be launched and necessary action would be taken, an official said.
