Berhampur: A youth committed suicide after he was threatened by a moneylender for payback at Badasahi village near Ankushpur under Sadar police limits here, police said Sunday. The victim was identified as Jeetendra Kumar Bishoyi at Badasahi in Ankushpur in the Silk City. The matter came to the fore after the victim’s brother Dharmendra Bishoyi lodged a complaint at the Sadar police station, Sunday. Police said that Jeetendra had borrowed some money from a covillager to invest in his business.
However, the accused moneylender threatened him and snatched away his scooter after he failed to repay in time. Left with no option, Jeetendra took Rs 15,000 from his mother and managed to get his scooter back and assured to pay the rest amount soon. However, the lender waylaid him again near Ankushpur panchayat office when he was returning home on his scooter, December 1, last year. He threatened Jeetendra and forcefully took away some documents and a house patta which he had stored in the scooter dickey. He threatened to return the documents only after getting the whole payback. The development pushed Jeetendra into distress following which he committed suicide the next day, the complainant stated in his FIR. Meanwhile, police have registered a case and started an investigation.
