Met Gala is one of the most anticipated fashion events of the year. The biggest celebrities from the worlds of music, entertainment and fashion gather at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to make it a night to remember every year.
The Met is an annual production put on by the art museum to raise funds for its fashion collection, and each year, there is a theme.
This year’s Met Gala had the theme Camp: Notes on Fashion and the celebrities served some dramatic LEWKS at the event.
From Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone to Lady Gaga and Sophie Turner, celebrities showed up looking their best (or worst, in some cases) in dramatic ensembles.
But what is the cost of attending the biggest fashion extravaganza?
For an event that began 73 years ago as a ‘midnight supper’ that guests could pay USD 50 to attend (Rs 3,467), the Met has come a long way.
According to Fortune, the cost of attending the Met Gala is USD 30,000. Or Rs 20,79,525 per person in Indian currency.
If you calculate the cost based on per table, it is USD 275,000. That is a jaw-dropping Rs 1,90,62,312!
And that’s just the price of entry.
According to the website, if you include a gown by a designer, which can cost somewhere around USD 35,000 (Rs 24,26,112), and jewellery, the cost can go pretty higher and you will be up for a very expensive evening.
In fact, Met managed to raise just over USD 12 million, which is Rs 83,20,20,000, in 2017.
However, according to Fortune, celebrities are usually not the ones who pay such huge amounts to be part of the fashion fest. A-list celebrities are generally offered up to millions of dollars to wear a designer’s creations, generally jewellery.
Keeping in line with the earlier years, this Met Gala too saw some heart-stopping looks on the pink carpet.
