Hrudananda Ray passes away

Cuttack, July 27: Renowned author and orator Prof Hrudananda Ray died following protracted illness at Apollo Hospital here Monday morning. He was 85.
Ray had been admitted to Shanti Hospital last week and shifted to Apollo Hospital as his condition worsened. His sons Ranjit Keshari Ray, Sangram Keshari Ray, daughter Nayantara Chhotray and son-in-law Guruprasad Chhotray were present by his deathbed. His mortal remains were taken to his Bamphisahi residence where scholars, Ray’s friends and relatives gathered to pay tributes to the departed soul. Ray’s mortal remains were consigned to flames at Puri Swargadwar later in the day.
Born at Gobindatota of Jagatsinghpur district May 10, 1930, Ray had done his schooling at Ravenshaw Collegiate School and Intermediate at Christ College. After completing his post-graduation at Venaras Hindu University, he started teaching at Ravenshaw College in 1958.
He had authored several volumes of poetry, travelogues, essays and philosophical books which brought him accolades and rave reviews.
