Huge cache of firearms seized from Maoist hideouts in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: A joint operation launched by Odisha Police, BSF, and Andhra Police busted Wednesday a number of Maoist hideouts in ‘Swabhiman Anchal’ of Malkangiri district. Large quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered from the busted hideouts Two SLRs, one .303 rifle, one IED, nine 7.62 SLR rounds, magazines and Maoist literature were seized.

The cops said that the arms and ammunition belonged to the Maoists cadres of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC). It is suspected that the cache of weapons was hidden by the Maoists in the forest with the intention of using them in future.

Police sources revealed that the Red Rebels were also planning to construct an arms factory in the jungle to manufacture guns and repair weapons. These would then be used while carrying out attacks on the security forces.

Further combing and search operations are underway in the area.
