Huge quantity of illegally stored firecrackers seized, three arrested in Sundargarh

Rajgangpur: Two days after the Odisha government announced a ban on sale and use of fire crackers from November 10 to 30, Rajnagar police in Sundargarh district seized a huge quantity of crackers from three houses at Bagichapada village, police said Thursday.

Three persons have been arrested for illegally hoarding crackers.

The arrested persons have been identified as Rahul Kumar Ram, Amar Kumar Ram and Anand Kashyap, residents of Bagichapada under Rajgangpur police limits.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rajnagar police station conducted a raid on the houses of the three accused and found huge quantity of firecrackers stored.

Further investigation revealed that the trio had stored the firecrackers with no precautionary measures. The police registered three separate cases and arrested the accused under sections 286 of IPC and 9-B (1)(b) of The Explosives Act.

Notably, Odisha government has imposed a ban on selling and using firecrackers from November 10 to 30 to avoid resurgence of COVID-19 as it has recently been observed in a number of countries across the world.
