Humanity forgotten: Onlookers busy shooting pictures and videos as accident victims plead for help

Paradip: Two accident victims were left crying and begging for help in agonising pain for more than two hours. However, callous onlookers instead of helping the victims were busy clicking selfies and recording videos, here Monday. Finally better sense prevailed and a passerby came to the rescue of the injured.

This shocking and deplorable incident was witnessed in the wee hours of Monday when a bike rammed into a truck near Hatitanki of Paradip due to dense fog. Both bike riders were injured with one suffering a serious leg injury. The injured later were identified as Ranjan Dash of Tikhiri village and Tapan Sahu of Chhedakani village in Mahakalpada of Kendrapada district.

What was deplorable that within moments people had gathered at the site of the accident, but instead of helping the injured they went on shooting videos and clicking pictures. The shocking incident once again proved the lows humanity has touched. Till police reached the spot and took the injured to the hospital, the onlookers did not even bother to help the victims.

A similar incident was witnessed in Jharsuguda two months back where a husband was holding his injured wife on road side waiting for help. But people instead of helping the couple, the people were busy shooting their plight.

They projected the sadistic behaviour of virtual world (social media) which has engulfed the society nowadays. Have we forgotten to ‘Be Human.’
