Rourkela: A woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband over dowry demand at Tulinga village near Hemgir in this district Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Liza Bhoi, wife of the accused Susant Bhoi. The couple married four years ago but Susant demanded for more dowry after marriage.
When the woman expressed her inability to meet his demands, Susant along with his family members allegedly inflicted mental and physical torture on her.
Things took an ugly turn after the couple broke out in a fight over the same issue Saturday evening. In a fit of rage, Susant hit her wife following which she got severely injured.
She was then admitted to a local hospital in a critical condition where she succumbed to her injuries.
Acting on a complaint by Liza’s family members, the police registered a case. The body was sent for autopsy while Susant has been detained for interrogation.
